1 February 2007 The English Major’s Lament
For years, all I wanted to do was be a writer. I wrote things, shared them with friends, made friends of fellow writers, and made up so many more stories in my head than I could ever have time to write down. I didn’t change from a major in interactive media to one in print journalism because I failed programming; I changed because I couldn’t stand the total lack of writing classes.
But I haven’t written a story since last spring. Ironically, the Writing Fiction class I took then pretty much killed my writing impulse. I’m still not completely sure why. And I don’t know if it will ever revive. This makes me profoundly sad.
I just want a story. Clay to craft, ink to draw with. But I’m afraid it will never come.

Wait… Didn’t your writer’s block begin before you lost every last semblance of hope in your naturalistic life?

Yes, yes it did.
Besides, historically I’ve found a loss of hope (or any other source of angst) to be a fantastic source of inspiration. So I don’t think that’s it.
